We fly from Istanbul to Reykjavik at 12:25 on Turkish Airlines flight TK8357. After meeting our guide at the airport, we head south. From Landeyjahöfn Port, we take a ferry to Vestmannaeyjar Island, where we do a short island tour before settling into our hotel. If the sky is clear at night, we may have the chance to watch the Northern Lights in the island's tranquility.
In the morning, we return to the mainland by ferry. Our route leads us to the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier, which gained worldwide fame after its eruption in 2010. Throughout the day, we’ll see three unique waterfalls:
- Seljalandsfoss: A waterfall you can walk behind, captivating with rainbows on sunny days.
- Skógafoss: A massive curtain of water, 60 meters high and 25 meters wide.
- Kvernufoss: A lesser-known, hidden gem.
Next, we head to Dyrhólaey Point, the southernmost tip of Iceland. We watch the Atlantic from cliffs rising 120 meters and have a chance to see puffins. Passing through the volcanic plains of Mýrdalssandur and Skeidararsandur, we continue over the vast Eldhraun lava field and settle into our hotel in Kalfafell. After crossing the lava fields, the northern lights illuminating the sky may crown this unforgettable day.
After breakfast, we start with the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where thousands of icebergs can be seen drifting. Then, in Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe’s largest ice cap, we see the Skaftafell glacier area. Next, we travel through Höfn and cross the Almannaskard Pass, passing through small villages while admiring the mountains of the East Fjords rising sharply from the sea. In the evening, we stay overnight in Egilsstadir. Perhaps the northern lights will accompany us over the tranquil fjords.
After breakfast, we travel along the Jökuldalur Valley and discover the basalt columns of Studlagil Canyon with a short walk (with a view of Studlafoss along the way). Next, we visit the turf houses of Sænautasel, abandoned after the 1875 Askja eruption. Heading north, we witness the power of Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Continuing, we observe cooled lava flows and colorful mineral textures in the Krafla geothermal area, and explore the surroundings of Mývatn with short walks at Hverfjall crater and the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar. In the late afternoon, we settle into our hotel in Mývatn. At night, we search for the northern lights in the dark sky around Lake Mývatn.
We spend the morning at the Mývatn Hot Springs, renowned for their mineral-rich waters. After resting and refreshing ourselves in the warm pools, we visit Grjótagjá Cave, a filming location for Game of Thrones. Continuing our journey, we discover the acoustic rock formations of Hljóðaklettar and the mesmerizing horseshoe-shaped Ásbyrgi Canyon. We then follow the coastal road to reach the charming fishing town of Húsavík, famous for whale watching. The final major stop of the day is Goðafoss, which means "Waterfall of the Gods." From here, we pass through Akureyri and end the day at our hotel in Laugarbakki.
In the silence of the countryside, we turn our eyes to the sky in hopes of catching the Northern Lights.
Today, we visit Thingvellir National Park, where the world’s first democratic parliament met and where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates intersect—marking the boundary between Europe and North America. The area was designated as Iceland’s first national park in 1928 and became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004. We’ll take a walk to witness the lakes and depressions formed as the continents drift apart, and after crossing between continents, we head to see the world-famous geysers. We’ll watch the eruptions at Strokkur geyser, known for its frequent activity (every 5–10 minutes), where the height of water and steam can reach up to 30 meters. The final stop on our Golden Triangle tour is Gullfoss Waterfall, a massive, 70-meter-high falls located in the Hvita River canyon. After leaving here, we’ll visit the ancient volcanic crater lake Kerid, which is about 3,000 years old. After photographing the lake amid red volcanic rocks, we arrive at our hotel in Reykjavik.
After a rest and dinner, we take a short city tour, strolling along Reykjavik’s lively streets of Laugavegur and Skolavordustigur, and photographing Hallgrimskirkja Church, one of the city's iconic landmarks.
Depending on the weather and solar activity at night, we’ll go to Grotta Lighthouse for a northern lights hunt.
After breakfast, we head to the Blue Lagoon for one of the most enjoyable moments of the journey. We relax in the deep blue geothermal waters, shedding the fatigue of the tour. Whether you stay for 2 hours or 4, you won't notice how quickly time passes in these blue waters.
Then, at 13:30, we transfer to Keflavik Airport. At 15:25, we return to Istanbul Airport on the TK8356 codeshare flight operated by Turkish Airlines and Icelandair, and say goodbye until we meet again on another BUKLATUR trip.
►End of the Tour: 13:00 Keflavik Airport
►End of the Tour: This indicates the time we will drop you off at Keflavik Airport on the last day of the tour.
