We depart for Lapland on Turkish Airlines flight TK 1749 from Istanbul Airport to Rovaniemi, departing at 09:50. Our guide welcomes us at Rovaniemi Airport when our plane lands at 13:30 local time. After meeting our guide, we head to Rovaniemi. Here, we first settle into our hotel and rest for a while.
Then, we regroup to visit the Arktikum Museum, located in the heart of Lapland, where we get to know more closely the region's nature, its people, and Arctic life. After our museum tour, we move on to dinner.
If the weather conditions are suitable at night, we may go to Lake Norvajarvi to hunt for the Northern Lights.
Early in the morning, we set off towards Kemi. At 09:00, we board the Arktis Icebreaker Ship. On this journey, where we will enjoy the beauty of the Arctic sunrise, we witness the progress of this massive 3,500-ton icebreaker across the frozen Baltic Sea and learn technical details about the ship. Afterwards, it’s time for a swim in icy waters. (Appropriate swimwear for ice swimming will be provided on board. Even if you can’t swim, the suits will keep you afloat.) If weather and ice conditions permit, you’ll also have the chance to walk on the ice. After returning to the port, we enjoy ourlunch at Snowcastle Kemi in a hall adorned with ice sculptures and lights.
After the meal, we return to Rovaniemi. Later in the day, we go to Santa Claus Village. Here, we cross the Arctic Circle and take a short break at the Ice Bar.
After dinner, we set out once again around Lake Norvajärvi to hunt for the Northern Lights.
After breakfast, we set out towards the village of Akaslompolo, where we will stay for 3 nights. This village is a tourist area that is not too crowded and offers many winter activities. Once we arrive in Akaslompolo, the first thing we do is rent our snowshoes. (Since the snow cover is high, it will make walking easier. If you wish, you can skip the rental and simply walk with your boots.)
The first stage of our hike, which starts from the Kellokas Nature Center, is about 3-3.5 km. If there were a competition for Finland’s most beautiful nature hike, this trail would probably win first prize. Along the walk, the tracks of rabbits and deer will accompany us. At the end of the first stage, we reach the Varkaankuru area. Here, we’ll go to a hut open to nature enthusiasts, light a fire, and grill the sausages we’ve brought with us.
After the meal, we begin the second stage of our hike. The second part is about 7 km and will be a direct descent to Akaslompolo. After arriving in Akaslompolo, we settle into our hotel. After relaxing in the in-room sauna to shake off the day’s fatigue, we meet for dinner. Afterwards, we will go hunting for the northern lights. If we’re lucky, we won’t even need to go out hunting—just looking up may be enough to see the lights of the north. :)
After breakfast, you have free time. Those interested can take a walk around the lake, while others may try skiing or snowboarding.
In the afternoon,Reindeer Safariwe get ready for.
During this traditional safari, which covers about 4 kilometers, we travel through the snow in sleds, taking photos during short breaks.
After getting to know Lappish culture and reindeer life up close, we return to the hotel.
After dinner, if the sky is clear, we head out again to watch the Northern Lights.
