On Friday night, leaving Istanbul and heading through Sapanca-Bozüyük-Kütahya, we arrive at Döğer, a district of Afyon. Breakfast packages are distributed on the road. Around 10:00 AM, we reach Çavdarhisar.
In Çavdarhisar, we first tour Aizonai Ancient City, renowned for its magnificent Temple of Zeus. Afterwards, we visit Memec Rock Formations and the Aslankaya Monument. This monument is one of the most important among the Phrygian monuments. After our walk at Lake Emre, we take a break for lunch.
After the meal, we continue our walk toward Göynüş Valley. We’ll walk among the rocks and fairy chimneys formed by water and wind erosion. In Göynüş Valley, we see the artifacts Aslantaş, Yılantaş, and Maltaş. After leaving Göynüş Valley, we reach our hotel in Afyon after a 40-minute drive. Dinner and overnight stay will be at our hotel in Afyon.
After breakfast, we load our belongings into our vehicle and leave the hotel. Our first stop will be Ayazin. Here, we'll see rock-carved churches from the Byzantine period and Fairy Chimneys.
Next, we get in our vehicle and head to Kümbet Village, which is actually a mound. We climb to the top of the mound; here we see the Solon Tomb Monument and return to the vehicle.
After a short drive, we begin our hike. Walking along a historical path through pine forests, we reach Yazılıkaya after a hike of about 2.5 hours. In Yazılıkaya, you'll see and hear the stories behind highlights such as the Midas Monument, cisterns from the Phrygian period, the Attis Temple, the Monumental Phrygian Tomb, and the Midas Throne.
After our tour of Yazılıkaya, we take a break for lunch. After the meal, we start our return journey. With a stop along the way, and depending on weather and road conditions, we expect to arrive in Istanbul around 21:30-22:00. We bid farewell, hoping to meet you again at another BUKLATUR event.
