We depart for Samsun at 06:10 in the morning with Turkish Airlines flight TK2806. The first stop on our tour will be Yazılıkaya, which we’ll reach after a journey of about 2.5-3 hours.
Yazılıkaya & Hattusa
Here, after learning in detail about the reliefs and the Hittite gods/goddesses at the Hittite Cult Center, we travel by vehicle to Hattusa.
Where necessary, we will get out of the vehicle to tour the Hittite capital. Yerkapı, Sphinx Gate, Lion Gate, King’s Gate, Nishantepe, Hieroglyph Rooms 1 and 2, Büyük Kale and the Great Temple are visited, and after your guide’s narration, you will have a close understanding of the Hittites.
Boğazkale
After finishing our tour of Hattusa, at lunch, you’ll have a truly unique dish: “Hittite-Style Pomegranate Lamb Leg,” a 3,500-year-old meal discovered on Hittite cuneiform tablets. This dish has won first prize in a competition and cannot be found anywhere else. After lunch we visit the Boğazkale Museum, which reopened on May 18, 2011, completely renovated, and is now one of our most modern museums. Here, you’ll witness the chronological history of the Boğazkale region accompanied by artifacts. Afterwards, we will visit the Boğazkale Carpet and Kilim Cooperative. Carpets and kilims woven by local women are both displayed and sold here. The carpets and kilims woven with many Anatolian and Hittite motifs are truly mesmerizing. After this short visit, it’s time for our main walk. Our walk will start at Boğazkale Pond and Japanese Gardens. With Hattusa to our left, we’ll walk towards Boğazkale, following the tractor road among the oaks until we reach the stream. Walking along the stream, we’ll go down a small rocky area locals call "Hoşu" and see a small waterfall. Following the stream passing through the gorge at Hattusa, we will arrive at our hotel. After our approximately 8 km walk, we’ll reach our hotel. Dinner will be at the hotel.
After breakfast, we set off towards Alacahöyük for the first tour of the day.
Alacahöyük
After about a 30-minute drive, we arrive at Alacahöyük. We begin touring the Alacahöyük Museum and Archaeological Site. After spending roughly an hour here, we see the remains of the ancient Hittite Dam, known to have been built around 1300 BC. After leaving the dam remains, it's time for trekking. Our walk starts once again in Alacahöyük, along a dirt road among oak trees. The route reaches the Kalehisar Hill junction after about one and a half hours. Depending on the group's preference, we can either climb to the castle or continue our hike. We recommend climbing—the view is magnificent, though the descent is quite challenging. Afterwards, we pass by the remains of Behramşah Külliyesi and continue walking to Mahmudiye Village, where we meet our vehicle and turn towards İskilip.
İskilip
In İskilip, our first stop is lunch. We'll go to Seyir Hill for lunch and enjoy İskilip Dolma, a favorite of Vedat Millor—you’ll love this dish. After the meal, we begin our tour of İskilip. With its traditional handicrafts still being produced in its bazaars, we believe İskilip will soon become at least as famous a tourism center as Safranbolu. You’ll be among the first to discover it before it’s well known. In the bazaars, among the Ancient Rock Tombs, you’ll have the chance to take photos and shop. After completing our İskilip tour, we return to our hotel.
After breakfast, we load our belongings into the vehicle, leave the hotel, and head to Osmancık for the first tour of the final day.
Osmancık & Kargı
In Osmancık, we will visit the Tomb of Koyunbaba, Koyunbaba Bridge, and Osmancık Castle. On the way, there is a shop selling Kargı fabrics, and after shopping there, we’ll head to Kargı. Here we will take a short 5 km nature hike where we can also see the Kızılcaoluk Waterfall. Then we’ll go for lunch. On the menu is “Sırık Kebabı.” You have to try it to know! :) After lunch, we continue to Çorum.
Çorum
Here, the first stop will be the Çorum Museum. This museum is one of the most modern in Turkey. With animations, you’ll have fun like children. The Clock Tower, Grand Mosque (Ulu Camii), and according to locals, the world’s narrowest Bazaar (Arasta) are among the sights we’ll visit. Afterwards, we’ll go to Hayvalı, where traditional roasted chickpeas (leblebi) are produced, and do some shopping. Once our Çorum tour is complete, we head to Merzifon Airport. At 19:25, we return to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines flight TK2859, and say goodbye until another BUKLATUR trip.
►Tour End: 19:25 Merzifon Airport
►Tour End: This indicates the time we will drop you off at Merzifon Airport on the last day of the tour.
