We set off from Istanbul on Friday night, traveling towards Boğazkale via Bolu-Gerede-Ankara-Kırıkkale. Breakfast packs will be distributed along the way.
Yazılıkaya & Hattuşa
Our first stop on the tour is Yazılıkaya. After learning in detail about the reliefs and the Hittite Gods and Goddesses at the Hittite Cult Center, we drive to UNESCO World Heritage Hattuşa. We visit Yerkapı, the Sphinx Gate, Lion Gate, King's Gate, Nişantepe, Hieroglyph Chambers 1 and 2, Büyük Kale, and the Great Temple. After your guide's explanations, you'll have a truly close insight into the Hittites.
Boğazkale
After we complete our visit to Hattuşa, we continue to the Boğazkale Museum. This museum was fully renovated and reopened on May 18, 2011, and is now one of our most modern museums. Here you will witness the chronological history of the Boğazkale region accompanied by artifacts. After the museum visit, you'll be quite hungry, so we head to our hotel.
We'll have lunch at the hotel. After lunch, we'll visit the Boğazkale Carpet and Kilim Cooperative. Carpets and kilims woven by local women are exhibited and sold here. It's impossible not to be amazed by the carpets and kilims featuring various motifs unique to Anatolia and the Hittites. After this short visit, it's time for our main walk.
Our walk will start at Boğazkale Lake and the Japanese Gardens. With Hattuşa on our left, we'll walk towards Boğazkale, following the tractor path through the oaks, which will connect us to the stream. We'll follow the stream, descend a small rocky area locals call "Hoşu," and see a tiny waterfall. Following the stream passing through the gorge at Hattuşa, we'll arrive back at our hotel. After the roughly 8 km walk, we'll reach our hotel. Dinner will be at the hotel.
After an early breakfast, we pack our belongings into the vehicle and leave the hotel. Following a journey of about 30 minutes, we arrive in Alacahöyük.
Alacahöyük & Hittite Dam
We begin our tour of the Alacahöyük Museum and archaeological site. After exploring here for about an hour, we see the remains of the historic Hittite Dam, believed to have been built around 1300 BC. After leaving the dam ruins, it’s time for trekking.
We start our walk in Alacahöyük once again, along a dirt road among oak trees. The route reaches the turnoff for Kalehisar Hill after about 1.5 hours. Depending on the group’s condition, we can either hike up to the fortress or continue walking. We recommend climbing; the view is magnificent, but the descent is very challenging.
Afterwards, we see the remains of Behramşah Külliyesi and walk to Mahmudiye Village, where we meet our vehicle.
Around 13:30, we have our lunch. After our roughly one-hour lunch break, don’t forget to buy some of the many varieties of roasted chickpeas sold here. After two rest stops on the road, depending on weather and road conditions, we arrive in Istanbul around 21:30–22:00 and bid farewell, hoping to welcome you on another BUKLA trip.
► End of the Tour:
22:00 Istanbul (May vary depending on traffic conditions.)
