We travel to Elazığ on Turkish Airlines flight TK2642, departing at 09:20. After meeting our vehicle at Elazığ Airport, which will be waiting for us, we set off towards Kemaliye.
Arapgir & Ocak Village
Our first stop will be Arapgir. In Arapgir, we’ll meet Ümit Abi, a truly unique person, by the banks of the Kozluk River. This part is something you have to experience for yourself—words don’t do it justice. :) After Arapgir, our next stop will be Ocak Village, which is another unique Alevi village. The locals have turned it into a modern village through their own efforts—with a museum, library, and even a helicopter pad. After a brief walk through the village and a visit to the museum, we move on to Yeşilyurt Village.
Yeşilyurt Village
Along the way, we'll see the bridge named after Recep Yazıcıoğlu, a respected person who accomplished much for the region, and we'll hear its story before arriving at Yeşilyurt Village. Yeşilyurt Village, with its houses, scenery, and the red roofs peeking out from among the trees, looks as if painted by an artist. We couldn't imagine it being any better. Not many people live in the village, the houses are original Eğin houses and exceptionally well preserved. You’re going to love it here.
After leaving Yeşilyurt Village, a short ride will take us to Kemaliye, where we'll stay for three nights. We’re sure you’ll fall in love with it at first sight. After settling into the hotel, we can take introductory tours of Kemaliye. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
After breakfast, we head to Sırakonak Village, traveling along winding roads with views of the Euphrates River.
Sırakonak Village & Apçağa Village
After a stroll through the village, which will impress you with its streets and unique architectural character, we embark on a magnificent nature walk to Apçağa, the village that inspired the poem “There is a village there” by poet Ahmet Kutsi Tecer. The walk is mostly downhill and takes place on a scenic path offering beautiful views. The walk takes about 1 hour (but may be longer with photo breaks) and ends at Kayabaşı country café. After resting at this café, which offers a bird’s-eye view of Kemaliye, we tour Apçağa Village and visit the Ahmet Kutsi Tecer cultural house. Afterwards, we move on to Kırkgöz Picnic Area for a barbecue.
Hacca Vineyards & Ethnography Museum
After having our lunch, we reach our vehicle by walking through Hacca Vineyards. After completing the walk, we return to the city center and end the day with a visit to the Ethnography Museum, which is housed in a former church building.
After breakfast, we begin our last day in Kemaliye.
Kemaliye City Tour
We set off on our walking tour covering Kemaliye city center, the bathhouse, the mill, Taşdibi District, Zincirli Kaya, Mani Road, and Seyit Ali Park. After visiting the Natural History Museum, we head out to one of the most entertaining activities of the trip.
Karanlık Canyon
We ascend with a tractor to a spot where we can see Dark Canyon from above. The trailer at the back of the tractor may not be the most comfortable, but it certainly adds a unique flavor to our journey. After about half an hour’s ride, a short walk brings us to the top of Dark Canyon. Whether you become a poet or fall in love here, we can’t say. But one thing is for sure: the spectacular view will leave you speechless. Of course, some might be left breathless just from the height!
Dark Canyon Boat Tour
After having lunch at the summit of the canyon, this time we’ll tour the canyon by boat. After seeing it from above, it’s time to see it from below. After the boat tour, we’ll walk along Taş Yolu and listen to the stories of this place. Since today is our last day in Kemaliye, we recommend you do some local shopping :) Dinner will be at our hotel. After dinner, we can do a night city tour for anyone interested.
After breakfast, we check out from the hotel, depart from Kemaliye, and begin our return journey.
Bağıştaş Village
Our first stop of the day will be Bağıştaş Village. Located 20 km from Kemaliye, this village is one of the stops of the Eastern Express and was once known as a gambling center. We will go into more detail there. The reservoir lake, the bridge, and the railway passing through the village offer beautiful photo opportunities. After leaving Bağıştaş, we continue our journey towards Divriği.
Divriği
When Divriği is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the Great Mosque (Ulu Camii). This magnificent structure, unique in the world, is the architect's only work and bears traces of nearly all the civilizations of Anatolia and nearby Asia. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will visit this remarkable site. However, due to ongoing restoration work, we will not be able to tour the interior. We will also have a traditional local lunch in Divriği.
Kangal Village & Farm
After lunch, we head to Kangal Village and the Kangal Farm located there. On this visit, we will learn about this famous Anatolian dog. We will also get to pet them a bit. Perhaps you will overcome your fears. :) Afterwards, we will continue on our way to Sivas.
Sivas City Tour
Upon arrival in Sivas, we will start our city tour. Notable sights include Gök Medrese, Çifte Minareli Medrese, and the Congress Building. After having dinner at Taş Ev, we head to Sivas Airport. We return to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines flight TK2661, departing at 20:00, and bid farewell until our next Bukla Tour.
