Tour days
Meeting at Karaköy.
We will begin our tour in Karaköy, a neighborhood that has become home to the most popular venues of recent times. We meet at 19:00 in front of the Karaköy Ferry Pier. If we want to trace the social and economic life of the Ottoman period, we must deeply understand this district. We believe that's why you joined this tour :)
In Karaköy Square, we'll embark on a journey into the past together. While listening to the stories of 19th and 20th century buildings, we'll also try to bring the Galata of the past to life in your minds.
We will hear the tales of significant buildings in the area, such as Minerva Han, Karaköy Palas, Ziraat Bank Building, Zülfaris Synagogue, Thessaloniki Passage, and Ömer Abed Han. Afterward, we'll begin a time travel via the historic Galata Bridge, heading into the old days of Istanbul. We'll talk about the conquest, bridge tolls, and Leonardo da Vinci.
When we cross to Eminönü, we'll try to paint another portrait of old Istanbul starting from Sarayburnu, and we'll learn about symbolic landmarks like the New Mosque, Spice Bazaar, Fire Tower, and Rüstem Pasha Mosque.
Next, we'll see the Post Office Building, constructed by Vedat Tek, pioneer of the National Architecture movement, and from there arrive in Sirkeci. In Hocapaşa Street, we'll take a break to taste a street snack. Then, along the tram line, we'll chat about Sur-u Sultani, Paşakapısı (the old State Security Court building), the Military School, Alay Kökü, and Gülhane. Entering Soğukçeşme Street, we'll see this unique Ottoman street brought into the modern era by Çelik Gülersoy. At the end of the street, we'll see the Bab-ı Hümayun and the Fountain of Ahmed III. In the Hagia Sophia Square, we'll have a brief conversation about the Baths of Zeuxippus and Hagia Sophia, specifically the Haseki Hürrem Bath. After sharing some information about the Sultanahmet Mosque and the Hippodrome, we will end our tour with an interesting visit that we think will attract everyone's attention, relaxing and shedding all the fatigue of this long walk with an amazing view. Our tour concludes between 23:00 and 23:00.
